The Retired Educators of Sumter County entered the spirit of Christmas as they donated a table full of food items for distribution by the Hope Center in Bushnell. The many toys collected will be distributed to children in Sumter County at the Laura Vickers Christmas Party at the Langley Medical Center in Sumterville. The children’s books will be distributed to various daycare facilities in Sumter County to be taken home

The event was held at the U of F Horse Teaching Unit. Event coordinator was Wendy DeVito, Youth Horse Programs Coordinator. Saundra TenBroeck, State Extension Horse Specialist and Undergraduate Coordinator was our emcee and hostess.

The 2014 edition of the South Lake Rotary Club’s annual Santa Fun Run/Walk was truly historic this year with the most runners and families ever to participate in this holiday opening event. The proceeds from the December 6th event will be used to provide scholarship monies to high school seniors planning to attend either Lake Sumter State College or the University of Central Florida, Clermont. Montverde Academy’s 2014-2015 Varsity Boys’ Basketball team is undefeated (6-0) and ranked the #1 high-school basketball team in the United States in both USA TODAY’s High School Super 25 poll, and the recent CBS/MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Boys’ high-school basketball poll.
